MW | Convergence Station | Haunted Windchimes

The Haunted Windchimes are dressed to resemble robotic alien jellyfish creatures. That is a mouthful of a description— they are essentially a suspended group of varied windchimes that play themselves.

Meason Wiley was responsible for the mechatronics and sound design along with Paul Grotzenger with engineering and CAD design support from Julia Strauss and Katy Corell.

I was the lead artist and designed and fabricated the aesthetic components that turned the robots into jellyfish. (Read: Robot Couture)

Fibers fabrication support came from Karen Lambke and Vacuumforming support from Justin Crouch.

I designed the models for the bucks using Blender and then hand painted each of the domes with unique veining patterns to reflect the growth of the creatures over time. Final paint support by Emilio Pincheira. The majority of this work was done from home during first wave Covid.

The install process was extremely tedious and required work at height on both boom and scissor lifts for several days to complete the layered attachment of all of the elements. I did this while also coordinating the install of the foliage across the swamp.

Below is a video documenting the final installation including environmental context, lighting, art, and sound.
