MW | Convergence Station | Faerie Orbs

Faerie Orbs is a project executed in collaboration with Kristen Keilman to create interactive orbs placed throughout Numina’s environment. The goal of Kristen’s piece was to animate these sculptures to show reactivity to guest proximity via sound and light. I was responsible for the aesthetics and art fabrication.

Below is a sample of production images showing my process of hand sculpting, mold making, rotocasting, and supplementary fabrication to produce multiple sculptures that receive and transmit tech integration.

This is one of my favorite images from the Faerie Orbs fabrication process. Rotocasting requires spinning the mold while the resin cures to create an even coat. This was done in layers and then extracted from the (admittedly excessive) mold in a process that felt like an alien birth. I rotocast each one of these sculptures by hand in a method that was rhythmic, dance-like, and required strength and precision.
