MW | Convergence Station | 'Hello Food' Wall Art

My initial goal for these layered steel and polycarbonate pieces was to make moire more organic so that it existed as a more natural-seeming texture and to push for a more discrete hardware integration. I did the initial drawings and worked with Brandy Olsen (who did the digital and physical fabrication work) to make these pieces come to life.

The creative prompt was: “What if an alien came to Earth and made the wall art it seemed like “Earthlings” wanted?”. I like to imagine that this being would get obsessed and intrigued by the natural patterns that repeat on large and small scales. I like to imagine that these organic shapes would seem so ubiquitous and inherent to our existence that an alien life form would assume we loved them and that they would resonate harmoniously with us.

Maybe I am that alien.

Below are some pre and post installation shots that show the final works and how the surrounding accent painting tied them into the space.
