MW | Omega Mart | Happy Greebles

Happy Greebles are hand-painted metal panels that line a hallway in the Factory of MW’s Omega Mart. Below are the individual panels who’s design I feel most responsible for.

Welding by Cris Brodsky | Creative Direction by Sandra Wang | Art Direction by Olivia Brown | Painting by Emilio P, Zach Sawan. Olivia Brown, Megan Brinkeroff, Sandra Wang | Sculpting by Megan Brinkeroff and Olivia Brown.

In my work as Sr. Artist on this project, I resolved and sourced a color palette to work best with color changing lights. Finalized the color layout, supported the design process of the panels, helped to create unifying motifs, and supported the handpainting and sculpting process over the span of several months.

The challenge and goal of this color palette was to choose happy tones that reveal and hide elements of the painting as the colored lights shift. I wanted to find a way to integrate animation using only color theory. This was ultimately very successful. Below is an example of the lighting test to show how the colors shift.

Motifs and elements from this work have been turned into wearable merchandise. I believe it’s appeal comes from the candy-colored palette and mixture of hard and soft forms.
